Traditional oriental dishes, cooked at home
Diwan Al Saraya has served traditional, homemade oriental dishes in Souq Waqif since May 2024: mezze, grills, home-style dishes, coffee and sweets.
The kitchen
Recipes from oriental homes, served in a majlis above Souq Waqif.
Breakfast, the oriental way
Mornings start with foul in olive oil or yoghurt, fatteh Shamiyeh, labneh, makdous and shakshouka, with za'atar and cheese fatayer from the oven. For a table of three, there's the Diwan breakfast spread. Breakfast is served until noon.
Mezze to share
Cold mezze come first: hummus, muhammara, mutabbal, baba ghanoush and yalanji, or all of them on the Diwan mezze tray. Then the hot ones: kibbeh, grilled or fried, cheese borek, spicy potatoes and chicken liver with pomegranate molasses.
Home-style dishes
The dishes families across the region cook for each other: kibbeh labanieh, freekeh with lamb or chicken, sheikh al-mahshi, okra and lamb tagine, kabsa, and the house shish, slow-cooked in a clay pot.
From the charcoal and the oven
Shish tawook, Kebab Shami and Kebab Izmir, lamb chops and charcoal chicken, or the Diwan mixed grill for one, two or four. From the oven: sfiha with pomegranate molasses, and fatayer by the tray.

What guests order most
Our best-sellers, as the restaurant manager tells it: the charcoal grills, freekeh with lamb, kibbeh labanieh, okra with lamb shank, and vine leaves.
